Joel Arbic Obituary
Joel is survived by his loving wife Shantala Ramaiah and sons Rowan and Remy Arbic of Tempe, his brothers Brian (Jennifer) of Ann Arbor, Michigan and Dan (Kim), nieces Courtney and Megan Arbic and his parents, all of Sault Ste. Marie.
He graduated from Sault Area High School in 1987 where he played basketball and baseball. After high school, Joel graduated with an engineering degree from Michigan State University. He worked for several years in the automotive industry before moving into the computer field, where he worked as a computer analyst for most of his career with Humana Health Insurance, in Phoenix, Arizona.
He loved the mountains of the western United States, where he enjoyed skiing, hiking, back-packing, canyoneering, mountain biking, and rock-climbing. His brothers and others cherish the memory of many outdoor trips with Joel. He had a spirit of adventure, which included a love of traveling. Shortly after their marriage in 2006, Joel and Shantala achieved a shared dream, spending 18 months back-packing around the world, before moving back to Tempe and starting their family.
A Memorial Service will be held in Tempe, Arizona Saturday, December 9. A Memorial Service will also be held in Sault Ste. Marie at the Central Methodist Church with visitation at 9 a.m. and service at 11 a.m. on Saturday, December 16. Donations in his memory may be made to the charity of your choice and condolences and memories may be shared at www.forevermissed.com

To Joel's family here in the Soo, and in AZ: My heartfelt condolences. The lump in my throat was just too large to express them at his memorial service. Thank you so much for having the second service here in the Soo; although it was clearly so difficult to go through again. You have all been in my thoughts and prayers. Joel's compassion, and "full body" laugh will be etched in many hearts! May your memories and God's peace comfort you all.

There are no words for the grief you must be experiencing, Bernie and Colleen. We can only hope that the support of family and friends will somehow give you the strength necessary to power forward until the grief lessens and your memories turn to the joy of having this son with whom you were gifted. We think of you and your family daily and hope that you find solace in knowing that your friends, though many miles away, are carrying you in our hearts and thoughts.

God Bless Joel, a true role model to all that met him! An angel of a person and honored to have called him friend, classmate and brother. May he rest in peace with the angels of god. I cherish every memory I have as he was the first to introduce our 7th grade math class to computers and writing video games. All the way to this summer playing a game called the Horse Racing game until 5:30 am. We laughed the entire 8 hours during our 30 year reunion. To his parents, you raised an all star! MVP in how he treated people he met and loved. He will be missed, I am just sorry I did not know him better:-(
