Arletta A. "Artie" Walker July 4, 1929 - Mar. 12, 2014 MISHAWAKA - Arletta A. Walker, 84, passed away on Wednesday, March 12, in Elkhart Hospice House. Arletta was born on July 4, 1929, in La Crosse, IN, to Louis and Millie (Miller) Zimmerman. She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Lena Baabs; twin brother, Paul Zimmerman; and brothers, Chris Zimmerman and Louis Zimmerman. On Feb. 7, 1953, in St. Paul's Lutheran Church, South Bend, she married Chester T. Walker. He preceded her in death on November 3, 2013. She is survived by her daughter, Wendy (Gerry) Hums of Mishawaka; son, James P. Walker of Mishawaka; five grandchildren, Jeffrey (Jolene) Hums, Michael (Katie) Hums, Benjamin Walker (Gail O'Brien), Amber (Jeff) Porter and Bethany Walker; eight great-grandchildren, Tyler Hums, Cooper Hums, Jacob Hums, Hayden Hums, Madison Stouder, Allison Walker, Kaleb Porter and Keire Porter; and four sisters, Kay Lindmeyer, Louise Cromey, Elizabeth Casselring and Joanne Johnson; and a brother, Roger Morris. Arletta worked as a Loan Manager for Bayer Credit (Inova) Union for 11 years and also worked for Studebaker Plant 8, traffic and shipping department for 23 years, and for Marshall Export Corp. for 10 years. She was a member of St. Bavo Catholic Church. Arletta loved camping, cooking for her family and friends, crocheting and "trips to the boat." Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m. with a Rosary at 4 p.m. on Sunday, March 16, in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Monday, March 17, at 10:00 a.m. in St. Bavo Catholic Church, with Rev. Barry England officiating. Burial will follow at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
