Bronislaus Janulis Obituary

Bronislaus F. Janulis Oct. 13, 1950 - March 31, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Bronislaus F. "Bron" Janulis, 64, of South Bend, died at 1:50 p.m. Tuesday, March 31st, in his residence, having spent his last days with his loving family. Bron was born October 13, 1950, in Chicago, IL, to the late Florentyna (Mizinski) and Alphonse Janulis, and had lived in South Bend since 1987, coming from Chicago. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Alana Janulis. On February 28, 1989, in Niagara Falls, NY, he married Susan R. Visser, who survives. Also surviving are two daughters, Serena Visser and Maya Janulis, both at home; one son, Anton Janulis of Boston, MA; one brother, Alex Janulis (Margaret) of Manhattan, KS; and three nephews, Klint, Wade and Nathaniel Janulis. Bron was a talented artist in many mediums. In his professional life, his hand-carved and gilded picture frames reflect an age-old art, rarely seen today, and are coveted by galleries and antique dealers throughout the U.S. Bron also made unique furniture and was a skilled painter in egg-tempera and watercolor. His work in the community extended from working with Good Green Neighborhoods on green rehabs for vintage homes to hanging exhibitions at the Colfax Cultural Center. An avid reader and researcher, Bron was rarely seen without a book (or iPad) in his hand. He was an invaluable resource to his family and friends --- always ready with an informed answer to any question. Bron leaves behind many loving family members and friends who will miss his smile, wit, and grumpy ways forever. The family wishes to thank The Center for Hospice Care and Senior Helpers for their gentle, caring assistance during Bron's illness. A Memorial Celebration of Bron's life will be held at a later date. The family will receive friends Saturday, April 4th, from 3 until 6 p.m. in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home, 521 N. William St. Memorial contributions may be made to the South Bend Museum of Art, 120 S. St. Joseph St., South Bend, IN 46601. Family and friends may leave e-mail condolences at www.welsheimer.com.

Susan, Maya, Serena and all. I'm so sad to hear of your loss. Bron was one of a kind, but you know that. No place I live is "home" until my Bron mirror, with its hand-carved frame, is hung in just the right place. My love to all of you. Susan Clements

Susan, I just met Bron for the first time this winter
when I was helping a friend with her art show at the Colfax.
He and I had a really nice conversation and I was so impressed with his wit and humor and intelligence and compassion. I know he was a very talented artist as well.
I can't imagine how sad you must be. May you find strength in your memories and may the love of family and friends and your God wrap tightly around you.
