SOUTH BEND - Charles H. Carlton, 85, of South Bend, IN passed away at 10:25 a.m. Thursday, January 23, 2014 in his home. He was born on September 29, 1928 in Oblong, IL to the late Chester and Vesta (Henry) Carlton. On September 11, 1948 in South Bend, IN he was united in marriage to Darlene I. (Sholly) Carlton. Mr. Carlton is survived by his wife of sixty-five years, Darlene I. Carlton; daughter, Teri J. (John) Woodruff of Mishawaka, IN; three grandchildren, Jill (Jeremy) Satterfield of South Bend, IN, Shawn (Ragen) Carlton of Mishawaka, IN and Christopher Woodruff of Mishawaka, IN; two great granddaughters, Caleigh and Adelynn; sister, Patri (Trent) Hilborn of South Bend, IN and daughter-in-law, Janet (George) Rumpf of South Bend, IN. He was preceded in death by his parents and two sons, Paul W. Carlton on October 14, 2002 and Dale H. Carlton on February 18, 2012. Mr. Carlton was a lifelong resident. He attended Southlawn United Methodist Church. He graduated from Riley High School and Acme School of Tool & Design. He worked at Studebakers until they closed, Littleton Manufacturing and retired in 1990 as a tool designer at Speedgrip Chuck after twenty-nine years of service. The family would like to thank Jenelle at Hospice and the caregivers at Home Instead Senior Care. Funeral services will be held at 4:00 p.m. Sunday, January 26, 2014 at the Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel, 3718 S. Michigan St. South Bend, IN where friends may visit with the family from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Rev. Lauren Hall will officiate. Private burial will take place on Monday at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend.
