Eugene Gorbacz Obituary

Eugene

“Gene” Gorbacz

Aug. 7, 1936 - April 7, 2016

SOUTH BEND - Eugene “Gene” Gorbacz, 79 years old, passed away on Thursday morning, April 7, 2016, at Wellbrooke. Gene was born in South Bend on August 7, 1936, to Samuel and Julia (Prusky) Gorbacz, who immigrated from Russia.

He was a 1954 graduate of Washington High School and joined the U.S. Army after graduation. He was an infantry soldier serving some of that time in Korea. After his honorable discharge, he began working at the U.S. Postal Service where he began as a letter carrier and advanced to a supervisory position. He worked there for 33 years. Always keeping busy, he began working part-time for The South Bend Country Club and University of Notre Dame where he worked in Parking Services for 25 years. He was a hard worker and so enjoyed all of the many friends he made there. He was a man of excellent work ethics, and always had a ready smile and kind words for all.

In 1960, he married the love of his life, Judith Ann “Judy” Walker. She survives. To their union, they were blessed with one son, Brady Eugene (Stephanie) of Marion, Illinois, and one daughter, Lori Ann Gorbacz of New Carlisle, Indiana.

He is also survived by a sister, Ann (William) Booker; nephew, Robert E. Yates of Florida; and niece, Julie Rathbun of Alabama.

He was preceded in death by twin brother, Robert, brother, Samuel, and brother, Walter.

Gene was a generous and loving husband, father and friend to many. He loved his family dearly and he leaves them with many wonderful, happy memories to cherish and was well loved by them.

There will be no services per his request.

Gene was one of my favorite people to see, at Notre Dame or SBCC. He always gave me a hearty hello and a big smile. He could brighten any day, no matter how dark weather wise or personally. I will greatly miss seeing his smiling face.
