Francis Wappenstein Obituary
Dec. 27, 1938 - Sept. 1, 2012 MISHAWAKA - Francis X. Wappenstein Jr., 73, of Mishawaka, IN, passed away at 5:00 p.m. Saturday, September 1, 2012, in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center. He was born on December 27, 1938, in South Bend, IN, to the late Francis X. and Martha (Wilson) Wappenstein Sr. Mr. Wappenstein is survived by his daughters, Lori (Russ) Gramhofer of Naperville, IL, Christine (Carl) Hughes of Ingleside, IL, Amy (Jim) Finerty of Libertyville, IL, and Bonnie Wappenstein of Trevor, WI; son, Scott Wappenstein of Columbus, OH, nine grandchildren & four great-grandchildren; brother, Richard "Dick" (Janet) Wappenstein of Kalamazoo, MI; aunt, Frances Lein of South Bend, IN; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a daughter, Sheryl Lynn Wappenstein, and a sister, Sue Marie Wappenstein. Mr. Wappenstein lived most of his life in the area except for eighteen years he lived in Chicago. He retired in 2009 from Gurley Leep Automotive. He enjoyed photography and was a member of the Moose Lodge in Mishawaka, serving as past governor from 1999-2001. Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Friday, September 7, 2012, in the Palmer Funeral Home-River Park, 2528 Mishawaka Avenue, South Bend. Burial will follow at Southlawn Cemetery, South Bend. Friends may visit with the family from 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. Friday in the funeral home. Contributions in memory of Francis X. Wappenstein Jr. may be made to the American Cancer Society, 130 Red Coach Trail, Mishawaka, IN 46545. Online condolences may be sent to www.palmerfuneralhomes.com.
