James Berridge Obituary
May 9, 1927 - Oct. 12, 2013 SOUTH BEND - James Donald Berridge Sr., 86, of South Bend, died Saturday afternoon, October 12, 2013, in Signature Care, South Bend. He retired from the Berrien County Road Commission after 20 years, worked for Cira's Restaurant and Catering, as well as Hill Truck Sales. He was born May 9, 1927, in LaPorte, IN, to James Arthur and Frances Quick Berridge, who preceded him in death. He was also preceded in death by his stepfather, John F. (Jack) Ley. On July 27, 1957, in LaGrange, IN, he married Erma J. Ray, who survives along with three daughters, Debra (Cal) Welker of Elkhart, Francee Foster (Rick) Newman of Edwardsburg, MI, Jackie (Tim) Southern of Granger; one son, James Donald Berridge Jr. and Kathy McLemore of South Bend; six grandchildren, Jon Rees, Janey Nicely, Jeffrey Foster, David Foster, and James and Nicole Southern; seven great-grandchildren; and one brother, Kent Berridge of Orange Park, FL. Jim was preceded in death by two sisters, Alice Block and Lois Asmus; and two brothers, Jack and Kurt Berridge. Jim was a veteran of the Korean War serving in the United States Navy. He loved his entire family and enjoyed fishing and hunting. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am Wednesday, October 16, 2013, in the Palmer Funeral Home - Hickey Chapel, 17131 Cleveland Road, South Bend. Military graveside rites and burial will follow at St. Joseph Valley Memorial Park, Granger. Friends may call from 4:00 - 7:00 pm today, October 15, 2013, in the funeral home. I am so sorry to hear that Jim has passed! I loved him, dearly! Nobody could ever match his sarcasm & attitude! I loved every single minute of it! I will never forget catering with Jim, as we had some of the best times griping together!! My condolences to Jackie, Erma, and the entire family!! ='(
