Marilyn Henley Obituary

Marilyn Marie

(Mann) Henley

June 11, 1932 - July 26, 2016

MISHAWAKA - Our mother, Marilyn Marie (Mann) Henley, passed away peacefully into the loving arms of God on July 26, 2016.

The only girl in a family of four children, she was born on June 11, 1932, in Elkhart, Indiana, to Walton & Irene Mann. After graduation from Elkhart High School, Marilyn began her lifelong insurance career that included work as a licensed agent and underwriter. At the age of 20, she went on a blind date arranged for her to meet Harry Henley, a handsome fellow she saw at worship at First Evangelical United Brethren Church. They would marry in the chapel of the church two years later in September 1954.

They went on to raise three children: Marcia (Phil) Tuskey, Mishawaka, Linda (Steve) Van Voorhis, Wabash, and Jim Henley, Chandler, Arizona. They enjoyed that time in their lives as well as cherished times with their grandchildren: Amy (Patrick) Sullivan, Katie (Wayne) Denger, Mark Tuskey, and Andrew (Alexa) Tuskey. She also had two great-grandchildren: William Sullivan and Jay Denger.

Marilyn and Harry celebrated 36 years of marriage in 1990, and he passed away in January 1991.

During her remaining years, Marilyn remained as busy as ever spending time with her grandchildren, volunteering, traveling, and helping others in her usual fun and energetic way. She played ping pong at the Battell Center for 15 years with the fiercely competitive seniors group. She loved riding her bicycle and would participate in long group rides. A one-day, 50-mile ride in Florida at the age of 68 was a favorite. In earlier years, she enjoyed canasta and pinochle club and church circle at First United Methodist.

Marilyn enjoyed life and loved and served others. We will miss her immensely and do our best to carry on her spirit and sense of adventure.

Visitation will be on Friday, July 29, from 3 to 7 p.m. in Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Funeral services will be on Saturday, July 30, at 10 a.m. in the funeral home, with Rev. Joyce Kuhn officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Street Cemetery, Elkhart.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Alzheimer's and Dementia Services of Northern Indiana, 922 E. Colfax Avenue, South Bend, IN 46617.
