Matilda "Tillie" Fekete

SOUTH BEND - Matilda "Tillie" Fekete, 81, passed away peacefully in her daughter's residence in South Bend, IN, on Wednesday where she had resided for the past two years. She was born on October 22, 1926, in South Bend, IN, to Albert and Elizabeth "Biricz" Nogall. She married Michael Fekete at Our Lady of Hungary Church on May 7, 1949, who died on October 24, 1992. She is survived by her daughter, Catherine (Michael) Coleman of South Bend, IN; three grandchildren, Irene B. Coleman of Woodridge, IL, Joanne (Peter) Scott of Chicago, IL, and John M. Coleman of South Bend, IN; and her most precious little one, her great-grandchild, Isabella Coleman-Sullivan of Woodridge, IL. Matilda in her younger years loved to travel and she traveled to Germany, Austria (where her parents were born), and Toronto, Canada, (where her cousins currently live), to learn about herself and her heritage. Matilda was a homemaker taking care of her parents until their passing as well as her husband. She had resided in her home until the age of 79. She loved animals, especially her beloved poodle, "Brigid." She also was an active Bingo player and Bunko player with the ladies of Our Lady Hungry Church. Her most precious time was being an active parishioner at Our Lady of Hungary Church where she was a member of St. Anne Society and Sacred Heart and Rosary Society. She never missed a Mass. She had a great devotion to the Blessed Mother and from the Blessed Mother not only religion but her love for the color blue. In her later years she was converted to watching Mass on Sunday and Rosary with Sister Angelica. In her last two years of her life she moved in with her daughter Catherine. Her caregiver was Michael P. Coleman, her son-in-law, and on some days she was his caregiver. She continued doing homemaker activities, such as dishes in her daughter's home up until her death and being active in religion. She received Communion weekly through Holy Cross Church by Ed Lind. Her dedication to her church and herself reflected her independence as a person. Although dishes may seem minor she always wanted to do, as she would say, "give her share." She was such a woman striving to be more independent that in her late fifties or sixties she took driving lessons in her blue car. Although she never learned to drive, her most precious times were her drives to the grocery store or to get her hair done at Premier, driven by her daughter (son-law), then grandchildren and loved friends. She was a woman with many words sometimes, but the words that counted were "Thank you" and "I love you." She also showed you how much she loved you with a kiss on the cheek after the drive or a touch of the hand. She passed a peaceful death with few words, but the knowing of her her life was now to continue in "blue skies." Visitation will be in the Zahoran Funeral Home, 1826 S. Kemble Ave., South Bend, IN, from 2 to 6 p.m. today (Sunday, March 2) with a Rosary at 3 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Hungary Church, 826 W. Calvert, South Bend, at 10 a.m. Monday, March 3rd, with burial at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, Osceola, IN.
