Max M. Plumhoff Aug. 14, 1932 April 28, 2014 GRANGER - Max Michael Plumhoff, 81, passed away peacefully Monday at St. Joseph Hospital with his daughter by his side. Max was born on August 14, 1932, in Muskegon, MI, to the late Bonnie (Burmiester) and Michael Plumhoff. He married Jean Marie Artesani on June 8, 1957, at St. Monica's Church in Mishawaka, IN. Left to cherish his memory along with his wife Jean are two sons, Steve (Michelle) Plumhoff of Gurnee, IL, and Eric (Julia, deceased) Plumhoff of Beverly Hills, MI; daughter, Jean Marie Plumhoff of Chicago; and his five loving grandchildren, Katherine, Marta, Amelia, Danny and Charlie. Max was preceded in death by his son, David, who passed away on September 17, 2012. A 1950 graduate of Muskegon High School, Max went on to graduate from Western Michigan University and then served his country for five years in the United States Air Force as a Captain and Navigator on C-130s. A successful entrepreneur, Max held high positions at both Uniroyal and General Electric, going on to start his own company, Plastics Dynamics, still thriving in its 37th year. Awarded the Boy Scouts Eagle in 1946, Max was an active scout, scout leader and philanthropist of the Boy Scouts of America for over 70 years. He has been a tireless volunteer and supporter of the Boy Scouts LaSalle Council here in South Bend for well over 30 years. A loyal member of his local Notre Dame Kiwanis group, Max never tired of helping people and his community. He was a devoted Catholic and member of St. Pius for nearly 30 years, and served as an usher for many of those years. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Max on Friday at 11:30 am at St. Pius X Catholic Church, Msgr. William Schooler officiating. Friends may call today from 5-7 pm at McGann-Hay Granger Chapel, 13260 SR 23, Granger, IN 46530, where there will be a parish vigil service at 5 pm. Max became a friend during our time in physical therapy. I enjoyed his stories, his attempts at appearing cantankerous even while exhibiting a heart of gold. He would call me every few months to let me know he was still ticking. I will miss those talks.

I only knew you late in your life, but that was enough for me to experience your warm and lively presence even if it was only a few hours that we ever spent in each other's company. RIP

Max, we were so blessed to have you in our lives. We will all miss your sense of humor, your no-nonsense approach to life, and your tireless devotion to Scouting. Thank you for being my friend. And I hope for your sake that God is as compassionate as we think He is so you will never have to use a computer in Heaven!
