MISHAWAKA - Miriam Shearer passed from this life on Friday, June 24th, in Hospice House, Roseland, IN. Miriam was born on July 13, 1936, in Granger, to the late Raymond and Josephine (Burdick) Lewis.
On June 11, 1955, at Harris Prairie Church of Christ (Granger), she married Norman Shearer, who passed away on February 1, 2014. Surviving Miriam are her son, Doug (Bethany) and grandsons, Connor Shearer (Alison), Indianapolis and Cole Shearer (Kate Hill), Indianapolis. Also surviving are her sisters, Charlotte Janowiak (Mishawaka), Genevieve Dunn (California), and brother, Raymond Lewis (Elkhart). She was preceded in death by sisters, Frances Gregory, Virginia Rollins and Evalyn LaCluyce, in addition to brothers, Orville, Donald and James Lewis.
Together, with Norm, they owned The Loft Ceramic Studio from 1976 to 1991. Miriam enjoyed making crafts and made custom greeting cards for those around her. She made beautiful items that many people will continue to enjoy such as afghans, quilts and hooked rugs. Using the label “Bags to Bags,” Miriam recycled plastic bags by crocheting them into purses, shopping bags, water bottle holders and other useful items.
Visitation will be Friday, July 1, from 10 to 11 a.m., with a service to follow immediately at Hahn Funeral Home, 505 W. 8th Street, Mishawaka. Jay Winter of Currant Road Church of Christ will be officiating.
Memorial contributions may be made to Currant Road Church of Christ, 56465 Currant Rd., Mishawaka, IN 46545, where Miriam was a member.
