Robert Kendle June 2, 1934 - Sept. 8, 2015 SOUTH BEND - Robert Kendle, 81, of South Bend, passed away at Milton Home Tuesday afternoon beside his surviving wife, Kathleen Veronica. He was preceded in death by his mother, Idabelle (Krathwohl) Kendle; father, Arthur Quentin Kendle; stepmother, Orphia (Kipp) Kendle; sister, Susan (Kendle) Mumaw; and brother, Larry Kendle. Surviving siblings are Paul Kendle, Ray (Terry) Kendle, Kay (Don) Owens and Sharon (Kendle) Ray. His mother, Idabelle, passed away within three weeks of his birth and he was raised by his grandparents, Robert S and Katherine (Miller) Kendle, and attended Lakeville schools until the age of 17 when his grandmother was no longer able to care for him. His grandparents spoke German and he was held back in school until he could speak better English. At that time he moved to Mishawaka to live with his father and stepmother. He attended Mishawaka High School and graduated in 1955. He was retired from South Bend Modern Molding. Robert enjoyed playing the piano and owned several and a couple of organs. Robert was a simple and honest man and preferred no funeral services. He will be buried at Fairview Cemetery next to his mother, Idabelle. St. Joseph Funeral Home, 824 S. Mayflower Rd., South Bend, is handling the arrangements.
