Rodney Harris Obituary
SOUTH BEND - Mr. Rodney LaVelle Harris Jr., affectionately known as "Hot Rod", who resided on Swallowtail Drive, Indianapolis, Indiana was called home to be with the Lord on Sunday, September 13, 2009. Rodney was born on November 22, 1990 in South Bend, Indiana to Rodney Harris Sr., and Stephanie Scaife. Rodney was raised in South Bend by his mother and later resided in Indianapolis, Indiana until his untimely death at the age of 18. Rodney leaves to cherish his memory his beloved mother, Stephanie Scaife; two sisters, Tithandy Scaife and Des'ree Austin; one brother, Dion Anderson, Jr., all of Indianapolis, Indiana; two cousins known as sisters, Tiffany and Tomorrow Taylor of South Bend; maternal grandparents, Terry and Gloria Scaife; paternal grandmother, Gertrude Gilkey; maternal great-grandparents, Fred and Nell Scaife; four special aunts, Ruthie (Shawntae) Aikens, Denise Taylor and Terrie Scaife, all of South Bend and Michelle Cousette; a special uncle, Sanford Swanson, both of Lafayette, Indiana; his godparents, Kisha Jacobs and Corey Fair and two special friends, Jalessa Banks and Shar-Day Brewer, along with a host of other family members and friends. Preceding Rodney in death was his father, Rodney Harris, Sr.; his grandfather, Robert Harris; maternal great-grandmother, Ruthie L. Brown; and two uncles, Maurice Scaife and Anthony Taylor, Funeral services for Rodney will be held at 11:00 am., Saturday, September 19, 2009 at New Hope Ministry. Interment will follow in Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service at New Hope Ministry. Arrangements have been entrusted to Alford's Mortuary where messages of condolence may be emailed to [email protected] c/o Harris Family.

My prayers goes out to the family. I am so sorry for your lost. Rodney was a good person and so happy all the time. Its so sad that his life was taken from him at the young age of 18. My sons father life was taken from him in 2008 and it still hurts me to know that he is not here, so i know your pain, I just cant imagine. I hope you just stay stronge and continue to pray because like i was told dont question God and what he is doing because everything happens for a reason, and that maybe it was Gods time to use him. Just keep your head up and stay stronge.

To Steph, Scaife and Harris family. I pray that GOD gives you strength, guidance, comfort, and most importantly courage to continue on this life journey w/ out your loved one. I've lost loved ones who are very near & dear to me and know how devastating it can be on a family and the emptiness you all are feeling right now, although Lil Rod is gone in the physical presence his spirit and memories will live on forever in your hearts. No one knows why GOD allows certain tragedies to occur- but he is the best knower... Trust that Lil Rodney is in a better place, free of worries and @ he's @ peace.... i lost a cousin that was 22 from a car jacking in INDY last year Oct. 2008. The next week my brother lost his only son and child Oct. 2008. The next week my cousin was killed by violence. Our family had never been thru this. But i watch my brother and family suffer everyday. It won't be easy but as i tell my brother cry when u need to because i feel the pain but don't know your pain. i did"nt no your son but my son did and had only good things to say about him. Stephanie, what can a parent say to a parent that has just lost their child. Words cannot even express the loss and feelings that you are going through. Stephanie, What is one to say to a Mother who has lost a child? I just feel so sorry for you knowing how heavy your heart may be right now, but I remember when I would go throught things & would listen to "The Battle's Not Yours It's The Lord's" by Yolanda Adams and even though it didn't erase the situation it was a confirmation that God hears us crying and he knows are pain. Stephanie I am so sorry this is not suppose to happen. A parent should never loose a child. We loved Rodney very much and I thank you for allowing him to stay with our family during the summer months, he was a great kid. My favorite memory of Rodney is when he went to the haunted house with myself, Bill, Lisa, Kyle, and Kelly. Kyle and Rodney was talking alot of mess on what they would do if someone grabbed them. Then someone jumped out at the boys during the walk of terror. Rodney and Kyle ran past me so fast, I laughed so hard at those two, that is a memory I will cherish forever. Love the Borders Family
