MISHAWAKA - Staff Sergeant Stephen D. Brademas, 61, of Mishawaka, IN died at 4:04 a.m. Thursday, March 22 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center following a brief illness.

Stephen was born April 19, 1956 in Detroit, MI to the late Patricia A. (Miller) and T. Brooks Brademas. Stephen resided in South Bend for most of his life.

In 1974, he joined the armed forces and was assigned to the Army base camp of Fort Bragg, NC. In 1979 he graduated Special Forces Medical Course. In 2004, SSG Brademas traveled as a member of the Army in the NATO Status of Forces to England, Italy, Germany, Ireland, Netherlands, Cyprus, Turkey, and Spain. He went on to be recognized as a lifetime member of the National Reconnaissance Office for his efforts in Satellite Intelligence and National Security. Stephen was last stationed in Alexandria, VA in the Army Casualty Operations Division. He was a liaison between wounded soldiers and their families during the Iraq War. SSG Brademas was a brave and loyal soldier.

Stephen was a local electrician apprentice between his military assignments. He was honored in 1989 by the American Red Cross, for Extraordinary Personal Actions for rescuing a fellow electrician after an electrical accident. He later graduated in 1991, from Ivy Tech, South Bend as an LPN. He went on to become the Director of Nursing at Portage Manor, in South Bend. He was a caring nurse to his patients.

He was preceded in death by his brother, J. Michael Brademas in 2005; his father, T. Brooks Brademas, Sr., in 2007; and his mother, Patricia A. (Miller) Brademas in 2017. He is survived by his sister, Patricia A. Brademas of Mishawaka, IN; his brother, Thomas B. Brademas, Jr. (Michelle) of Niles, MI; nephew, Kyle Brademas of South Bend, IN; niece, Kayle Brademas of Niles, MI; and great-nephew, Allen Orr-Brademas of Niles, MI.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Stephen's life will be held at 7:00 p.m. Monday, March 26 in the Welsheimer Family Funeral Home North, 17033 Cleveland Rd., with Father Edward Grams of Apostolic Catholic Church officiating. The family will receive friends in the funeral home on Monday, from 5:00 p.m. until the time of the service. Interment will take place on Tuesday, March 27 at 11:00 a.m. at Fairview Cemetery, Mishawaka.
