Thelma Bjork Apr. 11, 1937 - Aug. 6, 2014 MISHAWAKA - Thelma Nadine Bjork, 77, died peacefully at Golden Living Nursing Home Mishawaka, with family at her side. Thelma was born to Edna and Edmund Scherer in Richland County, IL. As a child her family moved to Mishawaka where she lived her entire life. Thelma was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Margie Scherer and Lois Silveus; and daughter, Carla Bjork. She is survived by three sons, Richard (Janice) Cosby, Lawrence Bjork, and David (Angie) Bjork; five grandchildren, Christina (Derek) Swank, Jacob, Theodore, Madison, and Michaela Bjork; step grandchildren, Matt, Candis, one other step-granddaughter, and four great-grandchildren. She is also is survived by her sister, Doris Tucker and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Thelma worked in retail many years before becoming a certified home health aide. She retired from Elkhart General Home Care. She was a member of the Mishawaka High School Class of 1955 and active with the MHS Alumni Association. When her children where in school, Thelma was very active in PTA including holding many positions both locally and at the state level. Thelma had a love of music, loved to sew, loved her cows and most of all loved sitting on her porch swing where she spent many pleasant hours. As a lifelong member of First English Lutheran Church, Mishawaka, she served many roles. Her fondest and most fulfilling role was as church historian. She and her sister Doris worked many hours creating this lasting history. This also led to the creation of the beautiful prayer gardens that are enjoyed by many at our church. A memorial service will be held on Thursday, August 14th at 11 a.m. Friends may call on the family at the church on Wednesday evening from 6-8 p.m. and one hour before the service on Thursday. Contributions may be made in Thelma's memory to the First English Lutheran Foundation, 16495 Ireland Road, Mishawaka, IN 46544. Palmer Funeral Home-River Park is assisting with arrangements.
