Theodore Panter Obituary

POCATELLO - Theodore "Ted" Panter, our beloved father, grandfather, brother and friend returned home with honor Sunday, September 15, 2019, after a courageous battle against cancer. Ted was born April 12, 1935, in Thatcher, Idaho to Lloyd and Ora Lena Olorenshaw Panter. His family later moved to Pocatello where he was raised. Dad became involved in fast pitch softball with the VFW Team for Pocatello. The team travelled to Texarkana, TX where Ted pitched the winning game for his team to win the VFW World Championship. His love of the game continued throughout his life. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting, hiking, biking and all sporting events. He graduated from Pocatello High School in June 1953. Ted was sealed for time and all eternity to Jeannette Elizabeth Daniels on July 29, 1955, in the Idaho Falls Temple.

While raising five children, working full time, and serving in various callings in the Church, Ted attended Idaho State University for 10 years and graduated in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Mathematics. He was then able to transfer from the chemistry lab to the computer systems group at FMC's plant in Pocatello where he was a Systems Analyst and programmer. Ted retired from FMC in 1994 after 41 years of employment. Ted also served in the Idaho National Guard as a tank commander attaining the rank of sergeant.

The most important things in our father's life were his family, his testimony of Gospel of Jesus Christ, and Church service. Mom and Dad unfailingly supported their children through attending the various events important to each. We were taught the Gospel of Jesus Christ by teaching and through their example. He was charitable, honest and upright in all things, and held firm to his faith in Christ.

Ted loved the Lord and served diligently in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Among the many callings he held were service as a Bishop, in a Stake Presidency, as a Stake President, and as a Temple Ordinance Worker. His service as a Bishop and Stake President impacted many lives. Later in life, Ted and Jeannette served as missionaries in the San Francisco, California Mission. They were loved by the missionaries and members they served. His last calling was as the Ward Historian. His efforts in compiling a ward history for each year are an instructive example in how to magnify a calling.

After the passing of our mother, Dad met Fayone Wood on a blind date as he described it. They quickly became friends and enjoyed time together. They continued to attend events important to both of their families. As a family, we express our gratitude to Fayone and her family for helping Dad have fulfillment after our mother's death.

He is survived and will be missed by his five children, Brian (Kim), Concord, CA; Steven, Chicago, IL; Kevin (Stephanie), Idaho Falls, ID; Dori (Ron) Wynn, Sterling, ID; David (Sylvia), West Jordan, UT; 15 grandchildren, Jamison, Rhett (Melissa), Tia, Ariel (Brock), Chelsie (Tegan), Derek (Emily), Talise (Jordan), Britesha (Michael), Brenner, Tresden (Kelsey), Amileah (Dalton), Van (Rachel), Anna (Devyn), Eli (Camila), and Dariel; and numerous great-grandchildren with several on the way. He was preceded in death by his wife of 53 years, Jeannette, his parents, his sister Maxine, and brothers-in-law Ted Jensen and John Daniels.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, September 21, 2019, at 11 am at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Meadowbrook Ward, 300 East Chapel, Pocatello. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 20, 2019 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Wilks Funeral Home, 211 W. Chubbuck Rd, Chubbuck, ID, and at the Ward Building at 300 East Chapel from 10 to 10:45 am. Interment will be in Restlawn Memorial Gardens, Pocatello.
