Thomas Osthimer Obituary
SOUTH BEND - Thomas E. Osthimer, 75, of South Bend, died at 6:50 a.m. Thursday, September 30, 2010, in Dujarie House, Notre Dame, IN, following a brief illness. Mr. Osthimer was born January 25, 1935, in South Bend, to the late Geneva (Dickey) and Joseph Osthimer, and was a lifetime area resident. On March 4, 1960, in South Bend, he married Bonnie K. Banfi, who survives. Also surviving are three sons, Thomas E. Osthimer Jr. (Julia) of Prior Lake, MN, Mark Osthimer (Sharon) and Andrew Osthimer, both of South Bend; one granddaughter, Ella Osthimer; a sister, Joy Becker (Dieter) of Evergreen, CO; a brother, Robert Osthimer (Barbara) of Granger, IN; and a sister-in-law, Lisa Osthimer of South Bend. He was preceded in death by his parents, and a brother, Jon K. Osthimer. Tom was a man of many attributes, including great honesty and integrity. He enjoyed running, jazz music, and volunteering at Madison School in the "Read to a Child" program. His family and friends will miss his dry wit and great sense of humor. Private services will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions may be made to RiverBend Cancer Services, 919 E. Jefferson Blvd., Suite 401, South Bend, IN 46617. I just found out about Tom. He was a great person in every way. Mary always spoke so kindly of him. I know what a tremendous loss this is for you and your family. You have my sympathy for sure.

I worked with Mr. Ostimer through the Read To A Child program at Madison. He brought such joy to the children that he read to during the school year. They will always remember his dedication to them with fondness. We at Madison will always remember and appreciate his gentle and caring spirit. My prayers are with the family. Rest in Peace.

I worked for Tom for ten years and he was the best boss ever. I loved his dry sense of humor and gentle spirit.
We will be missed by all who knew him.
