ELBERTON, GA - Werner Curtis Vernon, Jr., passed away January 18, 2016.
Born in 1948 to Helen Murrmann and Werner Curtis Vernon, Sr., in South Bend, Indiana.
A child prodigy in music, Kirk could play any instrument by ear, but was instructed in classical music at the piano.
In sports Kirk was a real athlete and won many awards for his endeavors. His best sport was baseball, then basketball and tennis, playing in high school. He also was a marksman at shooting. He could water ski single footed and was an excellent swimmer.
An all-around sportsman, every effort appeared effortless and was attacked with exuberant energy and enthusiasm.
He lived in South Bend until 1990, moving to Elberton, GA, to live on his sister's farm. He enjoyed the ministry of the late pastor Fred Vehe founder of the Christian Worship Assembly in Hartwell, GA, and its TV ministry. There Kirk received Jesus Christ as his personal Lord and Savior, and enjoyed the congregation.
He is survived by sisters, Maxine V. Smith of Fort Myers, Florida, and Christine V. McRae of Elberton, GA.
Kirk loved people and never met a stranger, all were accepted and loved by him. All loved hearing Kirk's trivia questions, jokes and encouraging words.
A memorial service will be held at a later date so all friends can attend to scatter his cremains at the farm where he lived and died enjoying all of its benefits and his friends and family that he loved so well.
He will be dearly missed.

Kirk & I went from kindergarten at Muessel through South Bend Central together. Among Kirk's many attributes was his athleticism. From baseball, basketball and tennis - Kirk excelled. Yet, it's my belief that what stands out most with Kirk is that he was most happy when those around him were happy. I'll miss Kirk. My sympathy to Maxine and Christine.

Kirk was one Great Guy. He would play Baseball with us at Muessel Grove Park in South Bend all summer long. What a Pitcher and Fastball. He brought will be missed. Bob Holke
