Happe, Anneliese 4/30/1928 - 9/5/2021 Grand Rapids Anneliese (Ann) Hildegard Happe, 93, of Grand Rapids, MI, passed away Sunday, September 5, 2021, at Holland Home Raybrook Campus. She was born on April 30, 1928, in Cologne, Germany, a daughter of the late Hermann & Anna Maria (Haeser) Stockinger. Ann worked for the United States government after WWII as a translator/typist and immigrated to the United States in 1951. While raising five children from a blended marriage in East Detroit, Ann started a travel agency and later became an administrative assistant to the Vice President of V.W. of America. The family spent many years visiting their cabin in the Grayling area and their love of skiing eventually lead them to retiring to a home in the Adirondack Mountains in Lake Placid, New York. During her retirement, Ann became very accomplished in Bavarian folk art painting. Throughout her life, Ann loved to entertain and was often the life of the party. Ann maintained her connection to Germany through her many life-long German friends in the Detroit area and the GBU. She is survived by her two sons Gustav Ortwein III and his wife, Jacqueline; and Christian Ortwein and his wife, Terrie; step-son Douglas Happe and his wife, Ann; step-daughter Diane Reed and her husband, Donald; grandchildren; great-children; many nieces and nephews. Ann is preceded in death by her husband Gustav Ortwein II; her son Michael Ortwein; her husband Alfred Happe; and her sister Waltraud Boden. A memorial service for immediate family will be held at a later date. The family would like to express deep gratitude to Holland Home and Faith Hospice for their support and expert care of Anneliese. If desired, friends may make memorial contributions to Holland Home Foundation, 2100 Raybrook SE, Suite 300, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
