Sarah Martin Obituary

SARAH MARTIN

LOGAN,W.Va. — Sarah Lee Hainor Martin entered into rest on Feb. 14, 2017, after a long battle with cancer. Sarah was born April 16, 1944, the daughter of the late Garrett and Florence Whitman Hainor. Sarah was preceded in death by her parents and infant brother, William Marshall.

Sarah was a graduate of Logan High School. She worked as a secretary and homemaker, taking great pride in her family. She and her husband, Ernest J. Martin Jr., celebrated their golden anniversary this year.

Sarah enjoyed cooking and baking; she loved giving homemade gifts during the holidays. She was a crafter and loved decorating her home. She enjoyed bingo and spending time with friends.

Sarah made the good confession on May 11, 2015, and she and her husband were baptized at First Christian Church, Disciples of Christ, in Logan W.Va., where she was a member until the time of her death.

Those who loved her will always remember Sarah's kindness and generous spirit, along with her supreme stubbornness. Along with her husband, those left to cherish her memory, are her son, Ernest J. Martin III, and his wife, Laura Tracy Baisden. Also left to remember Sarah are her sisters: Rosemary Matthews, Julia & Kirt Gothard, and Alice Jane Hainor. Her brother in law and his wife, Virgil and Carol Martin, also survive Sarah, as do her nephews and their families: Lee, Jessica, Ashleigh, Ryleigh, and Garrett Martin, and Kenneth & Krystal Martin.

A host of special friends and extended family also cherish Sarah, including: Joe and Sara Baisden, and Chad and Libby Salyers. Her best friends, Meloney Erlewine and Naomi Ward, will miss sessions "at the hen house" and time visiting with her. Sarah is also survived by her adopted grandchildren: Drew Petroff, and Mason, Chelcee and Ashlee McRoberts.

Honorary pall bearers are: Randy Adams, Joe Baisden, Kenneth Martin, Lee Martin, Joshua Bumgarner, Mason McRoberts, and Drew Petroff.

Service and interment at Forest Lawn Mausoleum will be held at noon on Friday, Feb. 17, 2017, with the reverends Harold McMillen, Switzer Church of God, and Andrew Wade, First Christian Church of Logan, presiding. Immediately following that, a celebration of Sarah's life will be held at First Christian Church, in Logan. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations in Sarah's honor be made to: First Christian Church We Can Program, which provides a portion of Back Pack Buddies, a charity helping provide weekend food for school children of the area. Honorariums can be mailed to: First Christian Church, 471 Stratton Street, Logan W.Va., 25601

The family wishes to express their thanks to many who have helped this journey: Haley Bumgarner, Greg McRoberts, Harold Ward, and the staffs of Dignity Hospice and Trinity Nursing Home. Online condolences may be left at www.jamesfh.com

Akers-James Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

To Sarah's family: I always looked forward to visits with your family when we were much younger. I loved to know that you were cousins as well as special playmates. I wish you peace in your memories. (My parents were Frank and Theo Barker.)
