Bill earned a bachelor's degree from Michigan State University. Following his graduation from college, Bill served his country in the U.S. Army.
He and his young family returned to his hometown of Ionia, Mich., where he spent much of his career in the family business, American Chemical Supply Company.

Bill volunteered as a driver for the Commission on Aging and was actively involved in church life.
Bill enjoyed spending the warmer months in Glenn Shores and traveling/boondocking out west in their RV.
He was an avid runner and even ran 40 miles (in one day) to celebrate his 40th birthday. Later in life, he transitioned to walking and could regularly be found on the roads near the family cottage.
