Claire A. Mitchell

Claire A. (Ward) Mitchell, 78, of Pembroke, died Saturday, May 15, in her home after an illness of several months. She was born in Boston, Aug. 13, 1931, a daughter of the late Linwood and Florence (Green) Ward. She was raised and educated in Dorchester and Weymouth and returned in 1985 to obtain her GED (high school equivalency diploma). Mrs. Mitchell retired in 1985 as a cashier for the Pembroke school department. She was a member of Ireland's Own in Brockton, the South Shore Irish Club, the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Auxillary. Wife of the late William J. Mitchell, she is survived by two sons, Gary W. Mitchell of Halifax and Kevin J. Mitchell of Pembroke; one daughter, Kathleen M. Mitchell of Pembroke; three grandchildren, Andrew, Brianna and Candace; and one sister, Ellen Ballinger of Florida. She was the sister of the late Jean Johnson, Linda Crothers and Barbara Smith. The funeral service will be Thursday, at a time to be announced, in the Sullivan Funeral Home, 551 Washington St. (Rte. 53), in Hanover. Interment will be in Pembroke Center Cemetery.
