Donald J. Putignano

Brockton Donald J. Sonny Putignano, 72 years, of Brockton, died Saturday at Tufts Medical Center after a brief illness. He was the husband of the late Judith E. (Sampson) Putignano. He was born in Brockton, a son of Josephine (DiStasi) Putignano of Hull and the late John Putignano. He was a graduate of Brockton High School, Class of 1954, and also a 1957 graduate of Massachusetts Maritime Academy. He was a retired proprietor of the Avon Towne House, a family owned restaurant where he had worked for over 30 years. He enjoyed all types of music, cooking, reading and sailboats. He loved the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots. He is survived by his five children, Lisa M. Foos and her husband Paul, Laurie A. Putignano, Dawn A. Burns and Jo A. Spillane and her husband David, all of Brockton, and John R. Putignano of North Carolina. He leaves 11 grandchildren, Dominic, Danielle, Amanda, Gabrielle, Corinne, Christina, Anthony, John, Marissa, Gwenevere and Judith; and four great-grandchildren. He is survived by his sister and two brothers, Joanne Creedon of Florida, John L. Putignano of Middleboro, Michael J. Putignano of Hull; and many nieces and nephews. He was the companion of Maureen Puffer of Brockton.
