Douglas S. Swain

Brockton Douglas S. Swain, 85, lifelong of Brockton, died March 12. A graduate of Brockton High School in 1940, he served in the U.S. Army Air Corps during World War II as a 2nd lieutenant and in the U.S. Air Force Reserves. His military experience in- cluded duty as an instructor for AT6 planes and P51 Mustangs and later flew F86 Sabre jets at Otis Air Force Base as a pilot. He was a footwear design specialist for Army Research and Development Laboratory in Natick for 30 years prior to retirement. Douglas was a longtime member of Easton Country Club and Narragansett Bay Wheelmen Bicycle Club and enjoyed golfing, bicycling, boating, cross-country skiing, snowmobiling, dancing and aviation. Douglas was the beloved husband of the late Marion E. (Woodworth) Swain for 64 years, who died earlier in the day; loving father of Douglas S. Swain Jr. and his wife Janis of Medfield and Leslie Wolfe and her husband John of Hanson; and dear grandfather of Darren Swain of California, Darcy Swain of Virginia and Kristen Wolfe of Quincy; uncle of Diane Marcy-Hannan and her husband Jim of Arizona and their family; brother of the late Barbara Bennett.
