Eleanor M. Bumpus

Eleanor M. (Wright) Bumpus, 84, passed away December 15. She was the wife of the late Paul E. Bumpus. Eleanor was one of five siblings and was the loving daughter of the late Henry and Ethel (Hyler) Wright. She grew up in Bridgewater, attending and graduating from Bridgewater High School. On April 16, 1950, Eleanor married Paul E. Bumpus and they raised their family in Bridgewater. In 1971, while being a busy mom, she went on to attend Bridgewater State University eventually earning her masters degree in Library Science. While raising her five children, she served as a teacher and librarian in the Whitman school system for 18 years and finished her career in the Plymouth School System. Eleanor was an avid reader, loved camping, traveling, and quilting. She was a member of the St. Thomas Aquinas Catholic Womens Club, and above all, she loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. Loving wife of the late Paul E. Bumpus, she was the devoted mother of Cheryl A. Daily of Bridgewater, James E. Bumpus and his wife Denise of Bridgewater, Paula M. Webber and her husband Paul of Taunton, Peter V. Bumpus of Bridgewater, and Michael P. Bumpus of Bridgewater; loving Gramma of 10 and great-grandmother of 8. Also survived by many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral from the Prophett-Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, 98 Bedford St., Bridgewater, at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 19. A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 12 p.m. in the St. Thomas Aquinas Church, 103 Centre Street, in Bridgewater, followed by a burial at St. Thomas Aquinas Cemetery.
