Lois H. Ortendahl

Lois H. (Almquist) Ortendahl, 99, of Chatham, passed away peacefully at Liberty Commons on June 21, 2021. Born in Ridgeway, Pa., the daughter of Engnard W. and Hattie T. (Anderson) Almquist, Lois relocated to Quincy and graduated Quincy High School. Formerly of Brockton, Lois was active in many aspects of ministry at First Lutheran Church - especially Martha Guild, choir and Lutheran Social Services. In Brockton, she was a member of the Thursday Club, American Field Service, and served as president of the board of Brockton YWCA. Lois also organized and directed the first door to door campaign for the United Way. Lois was predeceased by her husband of 73 years, Allan A., and her sister, Doris Moore. She leaves behind her two daughters, Cheryl A. Nixon and husband Rolf of Chatham and Alana J. Brandon and Richard of Barrington, R.I.; as well as four grandchildren and their families, Kristin N. Donahue (Thomas) of Wellesley, Amy L. Quinn (Michael) of Tampa, Fla., Jill A. Greene (Christopher) of S. Hamilton, as well as James H. Brandon (Michelle) of Shelburne, Vt. She is also lovingly remembered by 9 great-grandchildren; her sisters, Inez Johnson and Shirley Nelson; as well as nieces and nephews. A celebration of her life will be held on Tuesday, June 29, 11 a.m. at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Harwich. Burial will be private.
