Peter was born in East Bridgewater, the son of the late Bessie and Peter Gomes. Peter proudly served in the U.S. Navy earning many ribbons and medals. The two medals he was most proud of were, the Navy Occupation Service Medal (Japan) and the World War II Victory Medal. He worked for the city of Brocktons Highway Department for many years. For those who were lucky enough to know Peter, will remember a man who always had a smile for you, a great sense of humor and a love of children. He is survived by his son, William Gomes of Brockton; his sister, Betty Baker of Norton; sister-in-law, Katherine Picchione; granddaughter, Dawn Geloran; many nieces and nephews; and his caregiver and friend, Ruth "Rita" Holyoke, who fondly cared for him at home. Peter was predeceased by his son, Mark Gomes, and sisters, Rita Torrence and Alma Santos. Following cremation, burial will be at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, Thursday, Oct. 31, 2013, at 11:30.
