Shirley M. Flaherty

1928 - 2016

Shirley M. (Elliott) Flaherty, 88, of Stoughton, formerly of West Bridgewater, passed away November 11, 2016, at Copley at Stoughton Nursing Home. She was the wife of the late Martin C. Flaherty. Born March 28, 1928, in Waltham, she was the daughter of the late Wilfred and Alice (Livingston) Elliott. Shirley was a graduate of Waltham High School and had lived in Wellesly, Dorchester and West Bridgewater. She volunteered at Brockton Hospital S.H.I.N.E. and at the Main Spring House. She enjoyed various crafts and spending time with her family. She was also a communicant of St. Anns Church in West Bridgewater. She is survived by 4 daughters, Lynne Cooper of Pa., Gail Whittaker of Stoughton, Karen Schneider of Fla., and Judith Flaherty of Taunton; 3 sons, Gary McCumiskey of Stoughton, Michael Flaherty of Maine and Christopher Flaherty of Foxboro; 22 grandchildren; over 30 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Arlene Mogan of Fla., and Jane Saulnier of Waltham; and many nieces and nephews. She was also the sister of the late Wilfred Elliott. Visitation will take place Thursday, November 17, 2016, from 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. in the Dahlborg-MacNevin Funeral Home, 647 Main St., Brockton, followed by a graveside service at 1:30 p.m. in the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be given to the Brockton Main Street House or to Muscular Dystrophy.
