Bertram "Bert" H. Nelson, passed away on August 26, 2021, in Cape Coral, Fla., at the age of 73. Bert was born on September 27, 1947, on the island of Vinalhaven, Maine. After moving to Massachusetts as a child he attended Brockton, Mass., schools and then went on to attend Northeastern College. Bert spent most of his career working as a computer programmer. He enjoyed camping and fishing and was an avid pool player. After moving to Cape Coral, Fla., in 2015 he joined a pool league and made it all the way to the National tournament in Las Vegas. Bert is survived by his four stepchildren, Lynne Champagne, Robert Simmons and wife Debbie, David Simmons and wife Debbie, Ginny McManus and husband Mike; grandchildren, Chelsey Bolduc, Jamie Harkins, Nicole Simmons, Krystal Simmons and Keith Simmons; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, Gene Nelson; niece, Kristy Nelson Jones, and nephew, Kyle Nelson. Bert was predeceased by his wife, Donna Nelson; parents, Betty Foley and Harold Nelson, brother, John Nelson; grandson, Christopher Harkins. A private service will be held in Maine. The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at Health Park Medical Center in Fort Myers, Fla., for their care and compassion.
