David Furtado Obituary

David Alfred Furtado, age 71, of W. Wareham, died on Jan. 20, 2011 at Jordan Hospital in Plymouth. He was the devoted husband for over 44 years to Susan Grace (Mooney) Furtado. Born in Plymouth , MA on April 26, 1939, he was the beloved son of the late John Joseph and Helen A. (Gilewski) Furtado. He was educated in Plymouth Schools and had worked for the Town of Plymouth in various jobs. Following his schooling, he entered the U.S. Navy where he proudly served from Sept. 1956 through Oct. 1958 He had over 36 years working as the #1 Pumping Station Operator for the Water Department, along with 28 years of service as a Motor Coach engineer for the Plymouth and Brockton Street Railway Bus Company. He had moved to West Wareham in 2004 following his retirement. His hobbies included bicycling, rollerblading, and walking his dog Danny Boy along the canal. As a young boy, he loved fishing at Mass Maritime and traveling with his wife on the Cape as well as to Florida visiting his brother Jackie. Upon occasion he enjoyed boating with his brother. Besides being the devoted husband of Susan G. (Mooney) Furtado; he was the loving father of Janine Scales of Middleboro, and Diane Brennan of Plymouth. He was the beloved brother of Elizabeth Betty Lynch of Englewood, FL, the late Jackie Furtado of FL and the late Melvina McDonald of FL. He was the cherished grandfather of Ashley and Miranda Scales and Jack and Zoey Brennan. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins. Visitation will take place on Tuesday evening from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m. followed by a memorial service at 7:00 p.m. at the Cartmell Funeral Home, 150 Court St., Plymouth, MA 02360. I was so sorry to hear about Dave's passing. I worked with him for many years at P&B. He was such a pleasant person, and I know he was well liked by his co-workers and regular passengers. He will be missed by all who knew him. My condolences to his family. Sharen Crawford

To The Furtado Family - I knew Dave thru P & B he was my driver for many years, we had enjoyed many stories and laughs over the years he spoke very highly of his family & loved the grand kids until no end, please know that you are in my thoughts & prayers at this very difficult time, he may now rest at peace
