Dean Litchfield Obituary

Dean E. Litchfield, of Middleborough, formerly of Weymouth, died Sept. 16, 2014, surrounded by his loving family. Dean was dedicated to his familyhis three children, six grandchildren, one great-grandchild, his wife, Marion, who he cherished, and numerous nieces and nephews. And he was dedicated to his workspending a record 53 years at Keohane Funeral Home, first with founder Cornelius Keohane and then with current Chairman Ed Keohane. But mostly, Dean was dedicated to helping others, to doing the right things the right way, with an infectious sense of humor that attracted many dear friends and acquaintances along the way. His sense of duty led him to serve in the Army and Marine Reserves after his graduation from Weymouth High School in 1951. Dean then graduated from the New England Institute for Anatomy and Embalming. His sense of community inspired him to join North Quincy Knights of Columbus, the Weymouth Elks, MA Funeral Directors Association and National Funeral Directors Association. And his compassion for people not only made him an extraordinary funeral director, and it also inspired decades of volunteer work with hospice as well as the American Red Cross. Amid all that, he found the time to travel the world with his wife, Marion, and nurture the second-longest-running relationship of his lifegolfwhich he played until the end, at Oak Point where he also shared his golf time playing pool. He will be remembered for his dedication, discipline, irreverence, optimism, sense of humor, and friendliness towards all. Beloved husband of Marion R. (OHara) Litchfield of Middleborough. Loving father of Gail M. Georges and her husband Jeff of Hull, Paul E. Litchfield and his wife Mary of Westborough, and Dr. Brian J. Litchfield and his wife Sandra of Pasadena, Calif. Cherished Pa to PJ Cunniff, Dennis Cunniff, Kellie Cunniff, Christopher Litchfield, Taylor M. Litchfield, Jennifer M. Litchfield and great-grandfather to Kinsley Belle Cunniff. Dedicated brother of Dale S. Litchfield and his wife Robin of Ky, Dana B. Litchfield and his wife Louise of N.H., the late C. Frances Cipullo and her husband Du of Marstons Mills, and the late Rea F. Litchfield. Also survived by many nieces and nephews. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Thursday 4 - 8 p.m. in the McDonald Keohane Funeral Home, South Weymouth, at 809 Main Street (Rte 18 opp. So. Shore Hospital). Relatives and friends will gather in the funeral home at 10:15 a.m. on Friday prior to the funeral Mass in St. Albert the Great Church, Weymouth at 11 a.m. Burial in Mt.
