Eileen M. Singleton

Eileen M. (Fitzgerald) Singleton of Hingham, passed away from a brief illness on January 18, 2017, at the age of 98. Eileen was born in Boston and grew up in Brighton. She graduated from Brighton High School and took some secretarial courses after that. She held many jobs throughout the years, including a secretarial position for the National Labor Relations Board where she commuted to Boston by boat from Hingham and enjoyed playing Bridge on the trip with fellow commuters. Eileen loved to garden, paint and golf. She belonged to the South Shore Country Club for many years. She was an election monitor and was active in Democratic politics. She had an indomitable spirit and met each day with optimism. Dear wife to the late Daniel J. Singleton, she was the loving mother to Margaret Rourke of N.H., Daniel J. Singleton of Hingham, Dennis F. Singleton of FL, Mark E. Singleton of Hingham, Kevin L. Singleton of Hingham, Julia E. Singleton of VT, Regina S. Waller of CO, Christine S. Dolan of CO, and the late Ann Singleton; sister to the late Edward V. Fitzgerald and Margaret Riley; cherished Grandma to 17 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, with a 9th great-grandchild on the way. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and cousins, including the Fitzgerald family. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours Monday 5-8 p.m. in the Pyne Keohane Funeral Home, 21 Emerald St. (off Central St.), Hingham. A celebration of life service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. Tuesday prior to the funeral Mass in St. Pauls Church, Hingham, at 10 a.m. Burial in St. Pauls Cemetery, Hingham.
