Eileen Tobin Obituary

Eileen Julia Bell Tobin of Weymouth, passed away peacefully on July 28, 2018, at the age of 99. Eileen was born and raised in London, to an Irish mother and English father. She pursued a career in the performing arts and studied with Sir Laurence Olivier and Sir John Gielgud at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts. She played leads in three motion pictures for Gainsborough Studios before meeting her husband, Joseph H. Tobin, and coming to the United States. She performed in regional theater and summer stock in New York and Massachusetts. She was a gifted radio performer who lent her voice to a number of popular radio shows in Boston and the south shore over the years. She was a passionate supporter of Alcoholics Anonymous and Al-Anon Groups. In later years, she counseled people suffering from alcoholism and helped shape a pioneering DUI program in the Quincy court system. Eileen was predeceased by her husband, Joseph H. Tobin, by her dear sister, Rosalind Bell, and brother, Geoffrey Bell of London. She was the loving mother of Tobin Bell of Malibu, Calif., Charles Tobin of Bethesda, Md., and Wendy Stahlka of Buffalo, N.Y. She was proud grandmother to Stacie, Michael, Allison, Justin and Cooper and great-grandmother to Juliet and Xavier. A private memorial Mass will be held in St. Albert the Great Church in Weymouth at a later date. She will be laid to rest at the Garden of Remembrance, on the banks of River Thames in Richmond, Surrey, England. Dear Tobin,
You probably don't remember me l, but I met Eileen when she was my patient at Braintree Rehab around 2009. She was such a lovely lady with a beautiful soul. I have always had wonderful memories of her and I am so sorry to hear of her passing. Please accept my deepest sympathies to you and your family.

Rest in peace Eileen. What a beautiful life, and so proud of her family. She was a lovely and elegant woman and a powerful presence. Her command of the stage was clearly evident in June 2004 when she, and other parishioners of St. Albert the Great one-by-one, spoke about why the Archdiocese was wrong in selecting the parish for closure. Along with her fellow devoted parishioners, her support of the vigil contributed to the parish being fully re-established 10 months later. Prayers and condolences to her family. The Riley family
