John MacMinn Obituary

John Allen MacMinn, of Harwich passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on May 8, 2021, at the age of 77. He was born in Scituate, on May 10, 1943. John was the son of Mary Sarah (MacEachern) and John "Jack" MacMinn. John grew up in Quincy, as the only son of seven children. He was part of an especially close-knit family, a bond that carried into his adult life. John attended Saint John's Catholic Church as a boy and received a business degree from Quincy College. A veteran, John honorably served his country in the United States Air Force. John had a long career at Boston Symphony Hall where he was well respected amongst colleagues and made lifelong friends. He thoroughly enjoyed his time spent with the Boston Symphony Orchestra, including his many years volunteering to be Santa for children with special needs. After retirement, he relocated to live close to his daughters and grandchildren on Cape Cod. He enjoyed the time he spent caring for his youngest granddaughter Haylee. The two shared a special bond and many memories together. Some of John's hobbies included trips to the casino, playing cards amongst friends, and watching classic Western movies. He will be remembered as a loving father, hard worker, and kind man who would give you the shirt off his back. He had a great sense of humor and could lighten any situation with his quick wit. Devoted father of Lyn-anne Kunesch and Allison MacMinn, both of Harwich. Loving grandfather of Jena Daley of Centerville, Daniel Curboy of Brewster and Haylee Hempel-MacMinn of Harwich. Great-grandfather to Riley Curboy, and Brayden, Tyler John and Hudson Daley. Also survived by many beloved nieces and nephews. Dear brother of Mary Rainey of Charleston, NC, Judith Parker of Rockland and former wife and longtime close friend, Pauline MacMinn-Otoole of Abington. Predeceaced by Claire Cislo, Sandra Logan, Donna MacMinn and Marilyn Cedarquist. His funeral service will be held at Saint Christine's Parish, 1295 Main Street (Route 3A), Marshfield, on Wednesday, June 2, 2021 at 10 am. John will be laid to rest with honors at Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne, to be announced at a later date. Notes of comfort may be made to his family at www.chapmanfuneral.com.
