Karen Alice (Kristoff) Yelin, age 69, of Boston, formerly of Quincy, died peacefully, Thursday, April 2, 2015 at home, surrounded by her loving family. Karen was born in Chicago, Illinois, raised and educated in Australia and Larchmont, New York. She was a graduate of New York University and earned her Masters degree in Education from Antioch University New England in Keene, New Hampshire. She had lived in Boston for the past eight years, previously in Quincy for ten years. Karen worked as a lead teacher in a multi-age classroom at the South Shore Charter Public School for fifteen years, retiring in 2012. She was a teacher at the school in the second year that the school opened in Hull, later moving to Norwell. Karens Masters project centered on Australias highly regarded picture book author Mem Fox. Karen used her Masters project materials and Mem Foxs picture books in her classroom to provide additional enrichment to her students. Karen was an avid swimmer and in her youth participated in Australias Junior Olympics. Her gardening abilities were the envy of her neighbors. She enjoyed traveling, returning to Vermont every summer where she had skied for many years and had lived prior to moving to Hull, Massachusetts. Reading books was a big part of her life but she had succumbed to current technology, becoming quite proficient downloading e-books with her I-pad and Kindle. Karen was devoted to her family, especially her seven cherished grandchildren and her Beloved life partner, Frank Posluszny, Jr. of Boston. Devoted mother of Christina Carrad, Daniel Yelin, Amanda Kole, Samantha Yelin, Joshua Yelin, and Frank Posluszny III. A memorial funeral Mass will be celebrated in Saint Josephs Church, 550 Washington Street, Quincy on Saturday, April 11, at 10 oclock. Relatives and friends are invited to attend.
