Malcolm Berman Obituary

Malcolm Berman BRAINTREE Malcolm Berman of Braintree, a business executive and lover of life, died September 14, 2009 in Hingham. He was 79. He was born in Boston and raised in Dorchester. He was educated at English High School. Following graduation, Mal went into the graphic-arts business and as an entrepreneur started Farnsworth Press in 1960 to be followed by many other businesses and ventures. Because of his efforts and contributions to Handi Kids, he was named man of the year. In 1965 he was elected to the young presidents association. Traveling was very important to him and Nantucket was his favorite spot. It was here he became an avid angler. Sports were one of his favorite past times. Over the last 15 years, Mal loved and lived life with his companion Susan Dupont. They were inseparable and even started a business together, casino escapes. Mr. Berman is survived by his brother Fredley Berman; his sons, Steven, Ernie, Billy, Michael and Andrew; his daughters Julie, Jennifer and Jeanna; his 18 grandchildren, relatives and many friends and his longtime companion and love of his life, Susan Dupont. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, September 17 at 10 am at Temple Beth Am, 871 North Main Street, Randolph. Burial will be in Sharon Memorial Park, Sharon. Dad, so hard to believe that it has been a year already. Time has gone by way to fast. I think of you all the time as we all do. I still can't believe that you are not here anymore physically. You will always be in my thoughts. I love you and miss you tremendously.

While looking for surviving relatives in Baltimore, I came upon notice of the wonderful gift that Sandra and Malcom made to the GBMC. Ironically, although not knowing if Malcom and I are related, I do research on the fatal brain tumor Glioblastoma
multiforme that my father David Berman, brother of Blanche Hartz, died of. To Sandra Berman: I don't know if your husband and I are related, but I want to thank you for your support of neurological care.
My condolences,

Mal,
I'm sure you were smiling when you saw all the lives you touched paying tribute to you. What a beautiful family you have. What a wonderful way to celebrate your life. How proud you must be. You left the world a lot better off because of them. If they are half of what you were, how lucky we all are. They will continue what you taught them and your beautiful spirit lives through them. We all missed you that day, wishing you were there with us. In spirit, we know you loved what you saw :) I can imagine all the cigars you are passing out and the laughs you are having! You always knew how to throw a party! Someday we'll all be together again, laughing and enjoying friends and family. Till then, we'll be thinking of you and always remember your kind heart. XOXO

I met Mal through business and always found him to be a man of honor, integrity and trust, but more importantly he endeared himself to me as a friend. And even though I haven't seen him in several years his memory remains in my mind and I'll miss him in my heart.

September 16, 2009

For over fifty years I had the privilege and pleasure of having Mal as a dear friend who always had a smile on his face and a good word on his lips.He truly was a one-of-a-kind whose generosity was legend and who had that special knack of making every day you spent with him, a very special day. Amalia and I extend our condolences to all his family who were so dear to him and with an extra thank you to his beloved Susan who did so much, on behalf of all of us, to comfort Mal on those days we could not be there with him. May you Rest in Peace. Joe Balliro and Amalia Barreda.

Dear Fredley,
I am so sorry for your loss. Mal gave me many opportunities during my life as a printer at Farnsworth Press. I occasionally walk down Farnsworth Street and look at our reserved parking spaces. I reflect upon the great times we had working there with the Farnsworth Family, including Aunt Natalie, Leon, and enjoying your Mom's visits. Mal's generosity will always be remembered.I will never forget him and you are all in my prayers.

My deepest sympathies go out to the Berman Family. I have great appreciation for all Mr. Berman and the Berman family did to help me during my stay at Thayer Academy. They were gracious enough to open there home up to me and others and allow us to be part of their family. Mal and the Berman family was my extended family and I will forever be indebted to them for their kind ways. Mal you will never be forgotten for your generosity to others and you will always have a place in my heart. Thank you for sharing your life with me and my brother.

To Susan and all the Berman Family. Our deepest sympathies. Thank you for Sharing Mal with us and making us feel like we were part of your family.

Ray & Jean

In my life I have had only a few true real friends. Mal was one of them. Jean and I enjoyed being in his company and we know he enjoyed ours. His generosity to others was overwhelming. Mal enjoyed his life to the fullest. When Mal wanted to do something he did it. I remember him always saying, "Number one, It's what I want and Number two It's what I want! End of story" Being a close friend I saw the all the crazy things he did. I remember all the crazy things we did to each other .I also saw Mal's other side. The love that he had for Susan and for his family and his friends. Mal has made such an impact to all of our lives. I can't imagine how our lives will be without him. You will certainly be missed by all.

Mal we Love Ya!
