Paul McCarthy Obituary

Paul F. McCarthy, age 76, went home to God suddenly, surrounded by his loving family, Sunday, Aug 11, 2013. He is survived by his high school sweetheart, Elaine Tracey McCarthy of Humarock; sister, Grace Comeau of Simsbury, Conn.; children, Paul F. McCarthy Jr. of Whitman and his dear friend Barbara White, Deborah McCarthy DiBenedetto and husband Joseph of West Peabody and Kevin M. McCarthy and wife Bette of Quincy; grandchildren, Alyssa DiBenedetto and fiance Jesse Castleman, Cassie, Sarah and Mary DiBenedetto of West Peabody, Marc and Kelsey McCarthy of Quincy; and many nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late Edward McCarthy. He was born in Brockton, brought up in Holbrook, son of the late Edward McCarthy and Teresa Manley McCarthy. Paul graduated from Archbishop Williams High School in 1954 and attended pipe-fitters apprentice school in Quincy. He served in the United States National Guard for over 3 years and was on active duty at Fort Dix, N.J., for 6 months. He played baseball for Archbishop Williams High School and semi-pro baseball for the St. Pat's of Brockton and the Huskies of Easton and the Cape Cod League and played basketball for St. Josephs of Holbrook. He was a 50-year member of the Pipe Fitters Union and a member of Boston 537. He was a lifetime member of Abington Knights of Columbus. Paul loved all sports, coached Little League for many years. He was Mr. Notre Dame to his friends and family, attended several football games at South Bend and considered himself a proud member of the Notre Dame sub-way alumni. One of his favorite activities was a cup of coffee at Building 19. With his wife of over 53 years, he traveled to Hawaii, Alaska, Mexico, the Caribbean, Bermuda, the Alamo and the West Coast of United States but loved his yearly trip to the Florida Keys best of all. He will be remembered as a devout Catholic man - honest, fun loving, hardworking and devoted to his wife, family and friends. He will be missed and forever loved by all whose life he touched. Visiting hours will be held in the MacDonald Funeral Home, 1755 Ocean St., Rte. 139, in Marshfield, Thursday, Aug. 15, from 4 to 8 p.m. A funeral Mass will be held in St. Bridgets Church, 455 Plymouth St., in Abington, Friday, Aug. 16, at 9 a.m. Interment in Blue Hill Cemetery in Braintree.
