Thomas Scannell Obituary

Thomas J. Scannell, 75, passed away on Friday, March 6, 2015. He was a resident of Hanover for 50 years and was formerly of Hyde Park and Dorchester. Born on Oct. 12, 1939 in Boston, he was the son of the late Thomas M. and Barbara (Gorham) Scannell. Tom retired from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Department of Public Welfare as a Programmer. He was a member of the Lions Club for over 49 years serving roles as President of the Norwell and Hanover clubs and Cabinet-Secretary Treasurer of District 33-S, Lions International. Tom also served as a member of the Board of Directors for HYAA, as well as being a coach. He had been a board member of Hanover Parks and Recreation Department, and was a recipient of the annual award at the Hanover-Norwell Thanksgiving Football Game. Tom is survived by his devoted wife of 49 years, Judy (Augusta) Scannell. Uncle of R. David Lane of Silver Springs, Md, Richard E. Gardner of Wheaton, Md, and Mark D. Gardner of Germantown, Md. Visiting hours in the Sullivan Funeral Homes, 551 Washington St. Rte. 53, Hanover, on Tuesday from 3 - 7 p.m. Funeral mass will be celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at St. Mary of the Sacred Heart Church, 392 Hanover St, Rte 139 in Hanover. Burial in Hanover Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations in Thomas memory can be made to the Shriners Hospital for Children, Attn: Development, Boston, MA 02114, Massachusetts Lions Eye Research Fund Inc., P.D.G. William T.
