Thomas Stack Obituary

Thomas F. Stack of Braintree, passed away Aug. 3, 2011 surrounded by his six children. Beloved husband of Doris (McGinty) Stack of Braintree. Loving father of Brian E. Stack and his wife Margaret of Hingham, Paul Stack and his wife Catherine of Norwell, Robert Stack and his wife Marilyn of Braintree, Gary Stack and his wife Loretta of Waltham, Gail Pierce of Bridgewater, Janine Gray and her husband William of Cary, NC. Thomas is also lovingly survived by 18 grandchildren. Thomas was born on March 15, 1920 , the son of Thomas Francis Stack and Anne (Murray) Stack. Thomas graduated from the High School of Commerce in Boston in 1937. He served in the Army Air Corps during World War II. He was a radio-man on troop transports, and he was stationed both stateside and in England, Scotland, Belgium and France. He shared these experiences with his children when they were learning about the war. Thomas was a 1951 graduate of Boston University. He spent many years as a purchasing agent at Massachusetts Memorial Hospital and Peter Bent Brigham Hospital in Boston, and at New England Hospital Services of Braintree. He was a former president of the New England Association of Hospital Purchasing Managers. A devout Catholic and Eucharistic Minister, Thomas passed on his religious beliefs to his children as they were growing up. Thomas was a longtime member of the Secular Franciscan Order. He was a loving father to his children who he coached in Koch Club and Little League. He enjoyed fishing and baseball (in particular) the Boston Red Sox. Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the visiting hours on Monday 4-8 p.m. in the Keohane Funeral Home, 785 Hancock St., Quincy. A Celebration of Life service will be held in the funeral home at 9:15 a.m. on Tuesday prior to the funeral Mass in St. Anns Church, Quincy at 10 AM. Burial in St. Josephs Cemetery, West Roxbury. In memory of Thomas, donations may be made to Catholic Charities of Boston, 51 Sleeper St., Attn: Development Dept. Boston, MA 02210.
