Winston "Win" Stanyan Rice, of Norwell, passed away peacefully on Thursday, December 24, 2020, with members of his family at his side. He was the son of Theo and Josephine (Stanyan) Rice. He is survived by his four children, Linda, Winston Jr. "Buddy", Lucie and Jonathan; five grandchildren, Gordon, Alden and Elizabeth Kinder, Nicholas Rice and Emma Jones; and three great-grandchildren, Eloise, Daniel and John "Jack" Kinder. Win was born in Melrose, and graduated from Wilbraham & Munson Academy in Wilbraham. Win completed his undergraduate degree with a BA from Bates College in 1958. He served in the Armys Military Intelligence Service and was stationed in Hawaii, where he married his wife of 64 years, Carol (Crocker) Rice. He worked as a New England sales account manager for Owens Corning Fiberglass for 26 years, and then started his own company, Acoustical and Insulation Supply, which he ran successfully for many years. Throughout his life he enjoyed tennis at the Hanover Swim and Tennis Club and Scituate Tennis Club. He was an intrepid sailor participating with his crew in weekly regattas out of Scituate Harbor on his boat, the Sunburst. Win reveled in the annual Figawi race from Hyannis to Nantucket. Win was an avid skier and loved extended family gatherings up at Shawnee Peak. Win also enjoyed weekly golf outings at local courses on the South Shore and enjoyed playing poker with friends. In recent years Win lovingly cared for his ailing wife, Carol, enabling her to live out her life in the comfort of their beautiful home. Win will always be known as the life of the party, a diligent worker, a devoted husband, and a caring father and grandfather. A private celebration of Wins life will be held at a future date. Win was a great guy. I met Win 30 years ago and kept in touch with him as Win was one of those exceptional people you don’t want to lose your connection with. Win always had a smile, a joke and made you feel special. When I didn’t get his Christmas card this year I was concerned. I will miss him.
RIP old friend. I will see you on the other side.

Mr. Rice,
Sir, I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice for our Country when you served with the U.S. Army during the Cold War. Millions of Americans slept safe at night because you and your fellow Servicemen stood ready to defend our Country. And to your Family and loved ones, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy.

Years ago I remember playing tennis with Mr. Rice. He was a friend of my father and was always gentleman and had a good sense of humor. On occasion I think of Win and only have fond memories. My condolences to Linda, Buddy, Jonathon, and Lucy. I will always miss your father.
