Dallas L. Nelson, Sr.
JONESVILLE, SC-- Mr. Dallas Leon Nelson, Sr., 83, husband of Faye Garner Nelson of 315 Haile Street, Jonesville, passed away Sunday, June 6, 2010.
Mr. Nelson was born in Jonesville on November 30, 1926 a son of the late Nathaniel and Marie Foster Nelson. He was a graduate of Jonesville High School and Robinson's Business College and retired from the U.S. Postal Service as the Jonesville Postmaster. Mr. Nelson was a veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Army and was a retired Chief Warrant Officer after 20 years with the S.C. National Guard. He was a past Post Commander of the Jonesville American Legion, a chairman and past member of the Union County Election Commission, and was a member of Jonesville Baptist Church.
Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a son, Dallas L. Nelson, Jr. and wife Donna of Chapin; two daughters, Cathy N. Orr and husband Kent of Union and Judy N. Weatherford of Winston-Salem, NC; one grandson, Nelson Trent Weatherford and wife Ashley of Wake Forest, NC; and a great-granddaughter, Holden Weatherford. Mr. Nelson was predeceased by a son-in-law, Billy Weatherford.
Graveside services with Military Honors will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Jonesville Memorial Gardens conducted by Rev. Ralph Brown.
Honorary pallbearers will be Jackie Wade, Barry Moss, Keith Vanderford, Gilbert Smith, and Darrell Addis.
Visitation will be held 7:00 PM until 9:00 PM Tuesday evening at Holcombe's Jonesville Chapel.
