SPARTANBURG, SC-- Joseph Edward Shurburtt, 84, of Spartanburg, SC, 'JoJo' to his grandchildren and 'Buddy' to his friends, died Tuesday, April 18, 2017, at Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home. Born December 4, 1932, in Clearwater, FL, he was the son of the late Joseph Monroe and Annie Lou Tindall Shurburtt.
Mr. Shurburtt loved sports and enjoyed gardening and playing golf. He attended Spartanburg Methodist College and retired from Kraft Food Company. He was also a member of Morningside Baptist Church and former Deacon at West Main Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Doris Coggins Shurburtt; children, Kim Lynch (Pat) of Roswell, GA, Greg Shurburtt (Andrea) of Spartanburg, SC, and Julie Walker (David) of Inman, SC; grandchildren, Christopher, Jason, Cameron, Seth, and Jonathan Shurburtt, Robin Lynch, Jacque Burkhead, Lauren Anthony, David, Michael, Kyle, and Keith Walker; and 17 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a son, Chris Shurburtt; and sister, Barbara Shurburtt.
Visitation will be 1:00-2:15 PM Friday, April 21, 2017, at Morningside Baptist Church, 897 S. Pine St., Spartanburg, SC 29302. Funeral services will follow at 2:30 PM, at the church, conducted by the Rev. David Walker, Jr. and the Rev. Dr. Alastair C. Walker. Burial will be in Greenlawn Memorial Gardens, 1300 Fernwood-Glendale Rd., Spartanburg, SC 29307.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Spartanburg Regional Hospice Home, 686 Jeff Davis Drive, Spartanburg, SC 29303.
