MAYSVILLE, GA-- Mr. Kenneth E. Martin, age 78, of Maysville, GA, formerly of Buford, GA and Spartanburg, SC, passed away Tuesday, July 10, 2012.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jack and Vera Gunter Martin; brother, Bradford Martin; sister, Betty Jean Martin; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Rev. Jesse and Marie Buice Hayes. He is survived by his wife of fifty-nine years, Patricia Hayes Martin, Maysville, GA; daughter and son-in-law, Leigh and Roy McCollum, Maysville, GA; sons and daughters-in-law, Forrest and Becky Martin, Cumming, GA and Ken and Sheree Martin, Dacula, GA; grandchildren, Jeremy and Joy McCollum, Greenville, SC, Callie and Kyle Strom, Ft. Myers, FL, Jesse A. Martin, Calhoun, GA, Patrick and Anna McCollum, St. Augustine, FL, and Tres, Joshua, and Katarine Martin, Dacula, GA; great-grandchildren, Landyn Strom, Ft. Myers, FL and Avery Leigh McCollum, Greenville, SC; brother, Bonnie O. Martin, Buford, GA; sister-in-law, Shirley Hayes Bachelor, Maysville, GA; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Sidney and Jeanette Hayes, Lawrenceville, GA; special friend, Charlotte Vassy, Spartanburg, SC; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Mr. Martin was born May 20, 1934, in Buford, GA and was a 1951 graduate of Buford High School, Buford, GA. He was owner of Home Improvement Jobs and was a past member of Buford Lions Club. He was a former Sunday school teacher and was a member of Ben Avon United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, SC. He was a deacon and went on several foreign mission trips and was a former volunteer fireman with the Sugar Hill Fire Department. He was loved by other people and strangers and became friends in a few minutes.
A funeral service will be held on Friday, July 13, 2012, at 11:00 a.m. in the Chapel of Flanigan Funeral Home with Rev. Jones Brewer officiating and eulogy by Jeremy McCollum. Interment will follow at Broadlawn Memorial Gardens in Buford, GA.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday, July 15, 2012, at 3:00 p.m. at Ben Avon United Methodist Church in Spartanburg, SC. The family will receive friends at the funeral home Thursday, July 12, from 2:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. and from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.
