Kristi Joyce Obituary

Kristi Keelin Joyce

January 16, 1969 - April 17, 2021

Our beloved Kristi Joyce died quietly surrounded by her family April 17th after a very brief illness. We thank God for all of her days.

Kristi's favorite thing in life was sitting next to her husband, Tripp, watching their three sons play any sport, any day, any time. A close second was a summer sunset off of Ft. Myers Beach. She was happiest in the water, it didn't matter where: beach, lake or pool. Throw some oysters in the mix and it was a perfect day. Kristi had an affinity for sailboats in any form, anything that reminded her of her sailing days at Camp Seafarer. She also had a fondness for a well-built fire on a winter evening with an "all-nighter" log on the fire.

Kristi valued a day of hard work and described herself throughout her life as "capable" which is a humble understatement. Much of her time was dedicated to supporting the schools her boys attended and their extra-curricular activities. She may be best known for being team Mom of every team, especially her adored Hub City Strikers. Kristi was also a Yellow Jacket through and through, loyal all the way from Grant Field to the Tech "T" in her attic. Always all in, she was even known at home as a consummate napper.

Kristi is a rare native Atlantan, an alumna of the Westminster Schools and the Georgia Institute of Technology with a BS in Mechanical Engineering.

She is survived by her husband Tripp Joyce, their three sons, Drew, William and Wyatt, and one large dog, Dixie, that loved to sleep on her head. She is also survived by her siblings, Kim Sak, Kay Hibbard, Kerry Herrig, and Jim Keelin, their spouses, her numerous nieces and nephews, her mother-in-law Dinah Joyce, her 100 year old grandfather-in-law Col. Bill Pruitt, and a plethora of extended family who adore her.

Memorial donations may be made to SCAD Research, Inc. at scadresearch.org, supporting the research and awareness of Spontaneous Coronary Artery Dissection.

On Thursday, April 22nd the family will meet informally with friends to celebrate her life with an outdoor visitation at Dunbar Funeral Home from 3 pm to 5 pm following all Covid-19 safety precautions, everyone is welcome to the visitation. Her family will travel to Florida in June to share her ashes with the water she loved so much, of course during a perfect sunset.

Condolences may be expressed to the family at www.JMDunbar.com.

It breaks my heart to hear this news about Kristi. We went to school together for 18 years, from Pre-First at Westminster all the way through Georgia Tech. She was as down to earth and friendly as anyone you could meet. It's been a long time since I've seen her, but in keeping up through facebook I was always happy to see she had made such a wonderful life for herself and her family, and always enjoyed celebrating or commiserating together over Tech's wins and losses. My prayers are with her family during this difficult time. God Bless you all.

From the day we met through your beautiful niece, I knew we would get along! From the wedding to the designing of the silly T shirt to your love of the Jackets, you only showed me how much you loved your family and friends. My heart goes out to all the lives you have touched and I pray for comfort for your family. Rest in peace sweet soul.

William and John were in Kindergarten together and baseball and many other classes along these years. Kristie has been a wonderful friend and mother. She can never be replaced. Will be forever missed in my mind. I regret in so many ways not talking to her everyday for the past few years. She reached out to me recently and we talked a bit and she never said anything I guess in her way to check on me. She always did that, checked on me every now and again. There are so many lessons to learn from her good heart. Love and prayers to Tripp and the boys.

Your family was one of the first families we met when we moved to Spartanburg. I believe we met at either soccer or baseball- probably both. Kristi was so friendly ! Over the years, always a smiling face dropping at swim at Converse or Hillbrook. She will be missed. Your family is in our prayers!

Kristi was a true blessing in our lives.
She was our daughter’s young playmate and a lifelong friend just like the entire Keelin family. We love all of you and we are heartbroken. We have been praying constantly, yes, crying too. But we have wonderful memories and now Kristi is at peace.

I am sending so much love and so many prayers to all the Joyces and Keelins. My memories of Kristi are from Camp Seafarer where I was the younger cousin she came to check up on regularly. I remember sitting under a tree chatting with her and wishing that I lived closer and could spend more time with her. She was the "coolest" gal I had ever met - and in my life, my memories of Kristi are the yardstick against which I have always measured someone's "cool" factor. I know you all felt the same way and my heart aches for each one of you.
