SPARTANBURG, SC-- Violet Leonard Grizzle, 79, of Spartanburg, SC, died Monday, October 14, 2013, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center. Born May 24, 1934, in Greer, SC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Madison and Iva Faye Bryant Kemp.
Violet was a member of Arcadia Baptist Church. She loved to garden, enjoyed sewing, played the piano and organ, and was a graduate of Jordan High School in Greer.
Survivors include her loving husband, James "Buddy" Grizzle; son, Byron "Barney" Leonard of Inman, SC; step-daughter, Linda Daniels of Spartanburg, SC; 8 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; 4 great great-grandchildren; two brothers, John Kemp (Edith) and Larry Kemp (Sandra), all of Greer, SC; and her sister, Edna Arms (Billy) of Greer, SC. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by two daughters, Denise Hughes and Yvonne Emery; a sister, Frances Williams; and her first husband, Edward Warrick Leonard.
Visitation will be 6:00-8:00 PM Thursday, October 17, 2013, at Floyd's North Church Street Chapel, 235 N. Church St., Spartanburg, SC 29306. A graveside service will be conducted at 1:00 PM Friday, October 18, 2013, in Fort Prince Memorial Gardens, 125 Fort Prince Rd., Wellford, SC 29385, by the Rev. Joey Burnett.
