Richard Wetherill Obituary

Richard Alan Wetherill, 71, of Rockport, passed away on Feb. 7, 2018, at IU Health Systems in Indianapolis.
Rick was born in Evansville on Oct. 9, 1946, to the late Frank and Bertha Faye (Main) Wetherill.
Rick grew up in Chrisney, where he enjoyed an idyllic upbringing and met the love of his life, the former Joan Smith. They graduated from Chrisney High School, Class of 1964. From there, Rick went on to graduate from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1967, and attained his law degree in 1970 from Samford University-Cumberland School of Law in 1970, where he served as editor-in-chief of his Law Review. Upon graduation, Rick returned to Rockport and began practicing law with Paul Mason. During his career, he assisted thousands of clients in the fields of banking, real estate, estate planning, family and criminal law, and anything in which he could assist. He was a longtime and proud member of Trinity United Methodist Church, and he stressed his faith to his children, who learned more than could ever be repaid.
Rick served as a founding board member of Freedom Bank since its inception. He was exceptionally proud of becoming a Master Mason, walking in the footsteps of his father and grandfather before him. He was a member of the Scottish Rite and the Hadi Temple, and never lost his eagerness to serve others. Professionally, he served many municipalities and county governments over the decades, and he always remained adamant that the best years of both his family and his community lay in the future years, and not in the past.
Rick was preceded in death by his parents, and a sister, Beverly Jo Weber.
He is survived by his wife of 47 years, Joan K. (Smith) Wetherill, two sons, John Gregory Wetherill, and Frank Clinton Wetherill (Natisha), and one granddaughter, Fallon Eve. They were his world, and they will live the rest of their lives in his honor, blessed with all he did for them.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Spencer County charitable organizations of your choice.

My sincere condolences goes out to the Wetherill family . Rick was truly a loving husband, father, and all round family man. A true friend he was and a life of service he served.. The last time we spoke he told me he had also become a cook and housekeeper and was currently learning the roles of a butler. May God bless you all and lead you on this journey. You were really lucky to have him as he was one of a kind..
