Albert Stewart Obituary
Albert Lee Stewart, beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, was born on October 3, 1946, in DeKalb, Mississippi, to Booker T. Stewart and Mary Hudson Stewart. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 9, 2025, in Spokane, Washington, at the age of 79.
Albert grew up in Mississippi and was one of thirteen siblings: Willie Lee, Elnathan, Desiree, Laura, Johnny Lee, Booker T. Jr., James, Violet, Gloria, Johnny Walter, Mary Lou, and Everette Charles. His childhood home was rooted deeply in faith, discipline, and tradition. Albert grew up in a family that believed in and loved Jesus Christ, which led him to an understanding of God's love. He confessed his hope in Christ and was baptized at the age of ten.
Albert was known for his strength, humor, and unforgettable personality. Proud, hardworking, and resilient, he carried with him the lessons of growing up in Mississippi during the 1950s and 60's-lessons that shaped the man he became. His wit was quick, his presence commanding, and his character deeply felt by all who encountered him.
In the late '60s, he moved to Washington with his brother, Lee. In 1972, Albert married Dianne Bibb, the love of his life, and together they built a beautiful family that included six children: Dawn, James, Cara, Brooks, David, and Julian. His family grew to include 17 grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family. For all his toughness, his family was his heart. He carried them with him in everything he did; even in the moments he struggled to express it, that love was always there-steady, loyal, and unwavering.
Throughout his life, Albert was an extremely hard worker and exhibited pride and dedication in every position he held. He was most proud of his 27-year career at Spokane Transit Authority, during which he received commendations and was honored by having a tow truck named after him, affectionately called ""Big Al."" His skill, reliability, and work ethic earned the respect of colleagues and the gratitude of the community he served.
Al was a man of many talents and interests. He enjoyed gardening, music, and sharing stories-stories told with a voice full of humor and wisdom from a man who had seen and overcome much. Those stories were often embellished just enough to add color and bring them to life.
He leaves behind a legacy of resilience, faith, and laughter. In his last days, Al showed resolve in his commitment to God and belief in Christ, and we find peace in knowing he has returned home. His memory will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
Albert is preceded in death by his daughter, Dawn, and his son, Albert (Brooks); his parents; and his siblings Elnathan, Willie Lee, Laura, Johnny Lee, Booker T. Jr., and Everette Charles.
Albert's Celebration of Life is scheduled for 2 p.m. on November 23, 2025, at New Hope Baptist Church, 9021 E. Boone Ave., Spokane Valley, WA 99206. All are welcome to attend and celebrate the life of this remarkable man.
