Andrew BOYLE. Obituary

1933 - 2022

Andrew (Scott) Joseph Boyle of Spokane, WA passed away Thursday, May 19, 2022.

Andy was born on April 29, 1933, in Pennsylvania to Michael and Nora Boyle. He was the oldest of 7 children raised in Wayne; he graduated from St. Katherine of Siena School. He was highly active in sports, particularly basketball. After graduation, Andy joined the United States Coast Guard where he served in the Korean conflict. While stationed in Kuai, Hawaii, Andy met Mary Ellen Diggory, whom he married on May 29, 1953, with who he shared four children.

After serving in the USCG, Andy attended the University of Houston and graduated with a degree in Applied Science. After graduation, Andy and his family ultimately made Spokane their home where they raised four children until Mary Ellen's passing.

Andy enjoyed a long career with Travelers insurance until he retired in the early 1990's. During his time at Traveler's, he met and married his beloved Lillian. They enjoyed over forty years together, gardening, fishing, traveling, family vacations and long conversations. Both shared a love of debate and reading.

Andy shared his value of education and faith with his children as he made sure they all attended Catholic schools. During this time, he volunteered as the boys' basketball coach, sharing his love of the game with the students.

Andy is survived by his wife, Lillian, his four children Tara (m. John Ryan), Erin (m. Tom Dorsey), Brendan (m. Tricia Boyle), Kathleen, and his stepson Steven. He is also survived by his many grandchildren and one great grandchild.

Andy was preceded in death by his parents, Michael and Nora, his wife Mary Ellen, and his son Michael. He is also preceded by his sister Mary Agnes Gallagher, his brother Michael Boyle, his nephew Brian Diggory, his son-in-law Tom Dorsey, and his son-in-law John Ryan.

A Memorial Mass in Andy's honor will be held at St. Ann Catholic Church at 2116 E. 1st Ave, on Saturday June 11th at 10:00 AM. A private family burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the Dementia Support Northwest or the American Diabetes Association.
