Anna WHITNEY Obituary

Ann passed away in her sleep on August 16, 2021, at the Spokane Veterans Home. Ann was born in Spokane, WA on December 5, 1923 to parents Dorothea and Earl Mortlock. Ann grew up in Spokane where she lived most of her life. She went to North Central High School before joining the Marine Corps in 1944 during World War II. Ann worked for the Bureau of Mines in Spokane for 23 years from 1963-1986. She belonged to the Spokane Chapter of the Women's Marine League and volunteered at Toys for Tots for 30 years. She worked the computer and entered all the families pertinent information for approximately 1300 families until she was 88 years old. She also volunteered for their Spaghetti Feeds for many years as well as working at rest area coffee stops. Ann made many trips across the country, driving herself, well into her 80s. A lot of these drives were to go on cruises on the Royal Caribbean Cruise line where her son Danny works as a Cruise Director. Ann donated 23 gallons of blood to the Spokane Inland Empire blood bank and proudly wore the shirts she received for donating. After doing all this, she went to St. Anthony's Church every week as long as she could and much to the chagrin of her oldest son Rick, she strictly enforced 40 days and nights of no sweets during Lent.

Ann is survived by four children Rick [Annette] Holt, Jenny Williams, Danny [Wendy] Whitney and Will [Maria] Whitney, five grandchildren Kyle, Morgan, Kelsey, Mila and Maizie, eight great grandchildren Alexa, Tianna, Nikki, Katia,

Kinley, Emilie, Mason and Austin She was preceded in death by her parents Earl and Dorothea Mortlock, husbands Al Holt and John Whitney, brother Earl Mortlock and sister Dorothy [Dode] Owen. The family would like to thank all the excellent caregivers at the Spokane Veterans home, especially Jackie Block, Jeanette Sauer-Smith, and Eric Taylor, who took great care of her and appreciated her sense of humor. We would also like to thank Laurel Beamer and Carolyn Riley-Payne for their devotion to Mom's care.
