Barbara SHAFFER Obituary

Barbara Jean Shaffer (Finsen) passed away peacefully surrounded by family on March 30, 2025, just two days after her 65th birthday. Born March 28, 1960, in Prosser, Washington, Barb's life was one of service, kindness, and deep connection to the people and community she loved.

After graduating from Medical Lake High School in 1978, Barb dedicated her career to Lakeland Village, where she began volunteering as a teenager. She became a fierce advocate and compassionate caregiver to individuals with developmental disabilities, mentoring staff and fiercely championing the well-being of those in her care.

Barb had a profound love of books, nature, cooking, and her community. Her sharp wit, generous heart, and spirited soul left a lasting impression on everyone who knew her.

She shared 36 devoted years of marriage with the love of her life, Robert "Bob" Shaffer, and treasured her role as aunt and great-aunt to Taylor, Arianna, Vincent, and Jayse.

Barb is survived by her husband Bob; sisters Francie (Bill) and Susie (Lonnie); nieces Taylor (Josh) and Arianna (Chris); grandniece Jayse; and many extended family members and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her beloved mother Helen; brothers Phil and Steve; father Williem; and grandnephew Vincent.

A small gathering with close friends will be held on September 17th, from 1:00–5:00 p.m., at the Bull Head in Four Lakes, WA. No host meals and drinks available for purchase. Memory cards will be available, please bring a story to share.

A private family gathering will follow at a later date.

To plant trees in memory, please visit the Sympathy Store.

I am heartbroken to hear of Barbs passing. I knew Barb for so many years through her husband Bob. He and I served at the SERE School. My condolences to all her family.

Barb was always fun to hang with at school. She always had a smile to share and a laugh or two. Thoughts and prayers to her family!

I have been a surrogate sister of Barb's for 54+ yrs. Our hearts are broken at her loss. She was the most caring, funny, and loving person I have ever known and I have always been and will continue to be honored to be called her sister. I love and miss you so much!
